The start of the 2010 season for the Florida State Seminoles starts tomorrow, February 19th, as they will face a tough schedule this season with ten teams on the schedule that had 30 or more wins in 2009. Seven of the teams on the 'Noles schedule participated in an NCAA Regional last season.
Pitching, which many blamed for the Seminoles downfall in the Super Regional last season, looks to improve this season on control and consistancy. With a starting rotation that could include Sophomore Gilmartin, Junior John Gast, Geoff Parker, Mike McGee, Brian Busch and new comer Robert Benincasa, it will be interesting to see they can come together to lead this team back to Omaha. Other pitchers on the staff that could see starting time include Sophomore Hunter Scantling, Junior Robby Scott, and Junior Tyler Everett.
The bullpen, which also saw its struggles last season has several key players that will hopefully provide a boost for the Seminoles. Key relievers include previously mentioned Busch, Scantling, Everett, along with new pitchers Daniel Bennett, a transfer from Tallahassee Community College, Andrew Durden (transfer from Indian River State College), Junior Robby Scott, and freshmen Coben Madden and Scott Sitz.
Offensively and on the field, Florida State returns a solid line up capable of scoring run. A lineup that features players such as Mike McGee, Tyler Holt, Stuart Tapley, Stephen Cardullo, along with James Ramsey, Sherman Johnson, Jayce Boyd and Rafael Lopez should be able to navigate through this season's tough schedule and to be able to contend for Omaha. |
